Organizing Work From Home Tasks for Utmost Productivity

Updated: Feb 11, 2021

Organizing work from home tasks is imperative to the productivity of the remote worker because if tasks are managed well, cramming will be avoided by the freelancer during meeting deadlines.

You get anxious, you can’t concentrate, and everything seems to distract you- that’s what you always feel if you have so much to do, and you only have limited time. Organizing work from home tasks is an essential part of your freelancing success. It is because the effectiveness and efficiency of your remote working career rely on how well you are in organizing your work from home tasks.

Here are five steps in helping you to become more productive in your remote working career.

1. List all tasks you need to do for the day

You need to list down all the tasks that you need to accomplish to avoid unproductivity and forgetting important tasks. You can use a pen and paper to list down your tasks, or you can also use any tool on your computer.

2. Categorize your tasks using Eisenhower’s Urgent/Important Principle

One of the most effective techniques that successful freelancers use in organizing their work from home tasks is by using the famous Eisenhower’s Urgent/Important Principle. It is a principle that helps you to organize your work from home tasks to meet deadlines and improve productivity. The method required you to use the four principles, namely: important and urgent, important and not urgent, not important and urgent, and not important and not urgent.

3. Tackle Tasks using this Principle and avoid distractions

When you have already listed down your tasks, categorize them using the four principles and make sure not to get distracted. What are these distractions anyway? These are the tasks that are not related to your remote working tasks; this can be scrolling on your social media, watching Netflix, or even chatting with anyone.

4. Take breaks

Taking breaks is imperative to your freelancing career because it will refresh your mind; thus it will improve productivity, especially if you’re working longer hours. Also, your eyes need a break for you to keep the balance, and for you to be even more productive. You can either have 3 hours of work with a 1-hour break, 90 minutes work with 30 minutes break; it depends on what suits you.

5. Evaluate at the end of the day

Evaluating at the end of the day is essential because it will show whether you met your deadlines or not. For you to do the evaluation, you need to list all of the tasks that are not completed and categorize again for you to fulfill the next day. By using Eisenhower’s Urgent/Important Principle in managing your time and organizing work from home tasks, it will help you quickly identify the activities that you should focus on, as well as the ones that you should ignore.
